For Editors

The Editorial Workflow

The editorial workflow can be broadly summarized into 10 steps.

  1. Submission of Paper: The corresponding or submitting author submits the paper to the journal, usually via an online system such as ScholarOne Manuscripts. Occasionally, submissions may be accepted via email.
  2. Editorial Office Assessment: The journal checks the paper’s format and required sections against the Author Guidelines. Quality is not yet assessed.
  3. Appraisal by the Editor-in-Chief (EIC): The EIC checks if the paper fits the journal scope and is original and interesting. It may be rejected here if it doesn't meet the criteria.
  4. Assignment to Associate Editor (AE): If applicable, the EIC assigns an AE to manage the review process.
  5. Invitation to Reviewers: The AE invites reviewers suitable to evaluate the manuscript.
  6. Response to Invitations: Potential reviewers accept or decline the invitation.
  7. Review Submission: Reviewers submit their detailed evaluations of the manuscript.
  8. Editor Decision: The AE or EIC makes a decision based on reviews: accept, revise, or reject.
  9. Revision by Authors: Authors submit a revised manuscript, if requested.
  10. Final Decision: The final verdict is made and the paper is either accepted for publication or rejected.
